Passionate Entrepreneurs, Advisors, and Investors

David is a serial entrepreneur with numerous successful startups and exits to his credit.  His first successful exit was the sale of Owen Oil Tools to Core Laboratories in 1998 and he served as President of Owen and Vice President of Core Labs from 1998 until 2001.  He co-founded Probe Technologies in 1994 that sold to Cadent Energy for in 2008.  He was also founder and CEO of InDepth Systems in 1998 (with co-investor Marathon Oil) that sold to Petrowell/Weatherford in 2010.

In 2003, David founded GEODynamics, Inc.  In 2005, Shell Oil and Orica Limited invested in the company and in 2011 Limerock Partners acquired Shell and Orica’s equity.  David went on to lead and sell the company to Oil States International in 2018 in a cash and stock transaction valued at more than $600M and continued to serve as CEO until June 2019.  David served as CTO of Oil States from July 2019 until March 2020.   After leaving Oil States, David joined the boards of two digital oilfield service / SAAS businesses;  Datagration and Iron-IQ (IIoT Production Controls).   David also serves as the Chairman of Wyreline Transformation, Wolf Process Technologies and Greenwell Engineering. He also serves as a Director of SWM Technologies and Vertice Oil Tools. 

David’s oil and gas industry focus has been on completion products and technologies with more than 35 years in the space. The past 12 years has been almost exclusively focused on unconventional completion products and technologies in the USA.  David also has extensive international business experience in Europe / North Sea, Middle East, Mexico & Latin America, China and the Far East having successful lead significant business growth in all those regions. David is the inventor or co-inventor of more than one hundred (100+) US patents (~90% completions related) and has broad patent licensing and technology commercialization experience.  He is a registered professional engineer and holds a BS degree in Engineering from Texas A&M University (1982), did graduate work in Petroleum Engineering at OU and U of H and received his MBA degree from Southern Methodist University (EMBA 2004).  He is also a graduate of the Mahler Executive Leadership program (1999-2001) and completed the NACD Director Professionalism Course in 2012.

David has been an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) for almost 40 years and has served in numerous roles and received awards for innovation and service. David enjoys investing in new technology and mentoring the leaders of these startup companies. He is the founding Chairman of the Aggie Angel Network based in College Station, TX.   He also serves as an advisor to McFerrin Center for Entrepreneurship at Mays Business School, Texas A&M University.  David also supports and invests in companies in other industries, including software and IIoT.

David and his wife Patsy (GG & Fine Jewelry Entrepreneur) live in Fort Worth, TX and Woody Creek, CO.  David and Patsy have two adult daughters, both founders and leaders of their own successful Companies.
